Joel Prieto continues with his list of engagements in Spain. He is shortly going to perform the role of Javier for the first time, the male lead of Moreno Torroba\u00b4s masterpiece, Luisa Fernanda<\/i>. This will be the Madrid born Puerto-Rican tenor\u00b4s debut at the Campoamor theatre,\u201cone of the few opera houses in the country that I hadn\u00b4t got to know and which I am very excited about singing in,\u201d the singer affirms. <\/b>What is more, this debut will be with a very popular zarzuela \u201cof great importance in the repertoire of the genre, as we are talking about one of the best-known titles both in Spain and in America. I made my debut in the role in 2008, alongside Pl\u00e1cido Domingo, when I won the Operalia competition,\u201d<\/b> the young tenor explains. Prieto has just sung Rodelinda<\/i> at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Falstaff<\/i> in the Teatro Real. \u201cThese have been some very intensive weeks in Spain, in which I have been able to meet up with family in Madrid and work with the amazing teams at the Liceu and the Real. I love working in Spain because the audiences are so warm and knowledgeable.\u201d <\/b><\/p>\n
The singer recognises that Luisa Fernanda<\/i> has as much quality as any opera: \u201cit has gorgeous melodies, with a popular touch which captures the audience from the start. The orchestration is also of great quality. Also, the well-known Emilio Sagi production which we are putting on at the Campoamor is fantastic, elegant, and beautifully resolved.\u201d<\/b> The performances in Oviedo will take place on the 20th<\/sup> and 22nd<\/sup> June.<\/p>\n Prieto, who had already performed another of the great zarzuelas, Do\u00f1a Francisquita<\/i> (at the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre du Capitole in Toulouse, France), will then go to the Salzburg festival for a complete change in genre, as he will be taking the role of Orpheus, the title role of Offenbach\u00b4s Orph\u00e9e aux Enfers<\/i>, in a new Barrie Kosky production which will revive this great comic opera with a cast of legendary singers such as Anne Sofie von Otter.
